VENDRELL, EL

El Vendrell, in the north of Costa Daurada, is a town that is alive; where music, literature and cuisine have their own strong character. Want to find out more?

El Vendrell has both coastline and mountains, a unique binomial that will allow the whole family to live stunning experiences. Over the first few months of the year, just after the harvest is over, various restaurants in El Vendrell offer the so-called “Ruta del Xató”, a gastronomic event where a sauce made using almonds, hazelnuts, onions, “nyora”, red and green peppers, garlic and tomatoes macerated with extra virgin olive oil, covers escarole ─ a winter produce ─, cod and many other meals, such as meats or grilled fish. Finger-licking good!

And what goes really well with food? Great wines, of course! Did you know wines made in Baix Penedès are produced within DO Penedès? These are fresh, easy wines that carry the Mediterranean vibes in every sip. Check them out by visiting the wineries that surround the city centre.

A sea of culture

Following the Sant Salvador beach, in El Vendrell, means connecting with a unique natural environment, where the Mediterranean blue shades play capriciously with the golden sand. Standing there, we’re pretty sure Pau Casals enjoyed the breeze and the aromas of salt, coastline and paradise. Just by the sand, find Fundació Pau Casals, the perfect place to get to know the incredible legacy of this great musician and humanist that made history thanks to his musical pieces, especially with “El Cant dels Ocells”.

Strolling along El Vendrell is also a great opportunity to discover its history, through beautiful narrow streets full of life and heritage. An example can be found in Cal Ximet, an old house bought by Àngel Guimerà’s father. If you decide to visit it, don’t forget it is the 100th anniversary of the playwright’s death. Did you know that “Terra Baixa” is the most performed Catalan play ever?
